who's involved?

The Writing Fellows Program is made up of the Fellows themselves, the professors with whom they work, the students enrolled in those classes, and the program's administrative staff.

Fellows: Without you and your fellow Fellows, we'd have no program! Check out the complete list of current Fellows, and make sure you've got a picture posted!

professors: By choosing to teach writing-intensive or Communications-B courses, these faculty members have already demonstrated their commitment to improving writing instruction on the UW-Madison campus. By choosing to participate in the Writing Fellows program, these professors have indicated an openness to innovative teaching methods and a desire to give undergraduates opportunities for intellectual leadership. You will consult regularly with your course professor to clarify his or her expectations about student writing, to discuss the goals of each assignment, and so on.

students: These are the people you will be tutoring, so you will be paying very close attention to them! You can expect students to respond to you in a variety of ways; some will welcome the extra assistance, while others will be skeptical or perhaps intimidated. Remember, out of all the participants in the Fellows program, the student writers are the only ones who haven't chosen to do this. They won't know what they're getting into at first, so it will be especially important for you to be patient, take time to explain your role, and listen carefully to their concerns.

staff: Emily Hall, Rebecca Entel, and Brad Hughes are happy to talk with you about any aspect of Fellowing. Go to the staff page for contact information.
