Create a CBE name-year reference list

A reference list at the end of the document (headed "References" or "Cited References") is ordered alphabetically by author name.

Only references cited in the text appear in the list. Most examples below come from the CBE manual; a few are from bibliographies of articles in Biology of Reproduction (volume 49) and BioScience (volume 42).

Use the table below for more details about formatting entries for a CBE name-year system reference list.

When you have (a) . . . Format your reference list entry like this:

Book (1):
Two authors

Voet D, Voet JG. 1990. Biochemistry. New York: J Wiley. 1223 p.

[NB: References for books have spaces after colon and semicolon separating city, publisher, date. Total pages (1223 p) given for whole book.]

Book (2):
Volume with separate title
