Toward a Rhetoric of PowerPoint:
Using PowerPoint More Effectively
2 hours

Intended Audience

Any undergraduate, graduate, or faculty writer interested in learning to write better PowerPoint slide shows.

Overview

Using PowerPoint effectively as you teach and as you present your research involves much more than creating bullet slides. In this workshop, we'll discuss how PowerPoint visuals can help you achieve (and can interfere with) your goals as a speaker. We'll learn how to sequence information on slides and how and when to use bullets, graphics, animations, and hyperlinks. By analyzing samples, we'll develop principles for effective powerpoint presentations, ones that communicate your ideas clearly and powerfully to your audience.

Please note: This workshop is not an introduction to the mechanics of the program.
