WisTEP roots and evolution, and now part of CBE
WisTEP has a long history of serving teachers. Professor Raymond Kessel founded WisTEP over 20 years ago. Collaborating with UW-madison faculty and staff and classroom teachers, WisTEP has offered many one and two week courses in a range of biology and health topics. The WisTEP roster has hundreds no thousands of names of teachers from around the U.S. and in fact around the world. WisTEP continues to serve teachers as it evolves to meet the needs of the 21st century classroom teacher.
Teacher professional development is the responsibility of many at UW-Madison. Many schools, colleges, departments, institutes, and individuals offer their services in order to address the professional development needs of inservice teachers in Wisconsin. As WisTEP evolves as a program, it is seeking to work with faculty/staff on campus who wish to share resources and expertise through their outreach efforts to science teachers.
WisTEP is now affiliated with the Center for Biology Education (CBE). CBE develops and coordinates a spectrum of activities/programs for the university, for K-12 teachers and students and for the general public with the aim of promoting excellence in biology education at all levels. CBE staff members have backgrounds and training in a variety of biology subdisciplines as well as in the field of education. CBE is a unit of the Institute for Cross-college Biology Education (ICBE). For more information on CBE and ICBE, check out www.wisc.edu/cbe and www.biology.wisc.edu/icbe.
The WisTEP program development and implementation is done in close partnership with UW-Madison faculty, staff, graduate students, and undergrads as well as with community members. Please share your ideas and needs with WisTEP contacts listed below.
