National Children’s Memorial Day

The U.S. Senate unanimously requested the President "to issue a proclamation designating December 13, 1998, as National Children’s Memorial Day and calls on the people of the United States to observe the day with appropriate ceremonies and activities in remembrance of infants, children, teenagers, and young adults who have died."

The Compassionate Friends, a bereavement organization for families who have experienced the death of a child, announced in a recent letter that they will hold their second annual worldwide candle-lighting in memory of all children who have died, "...that their light may always shine." They invite people around the world to light a candle on Sunday, December 13 at 7 p.m. in their time zone; as candles burn down in one time zone, they will be lit in the next, thus creating a virtual 24-hour remembrance of all children who have died.
