Personal Portraits

It is long overdue that we introduce Kevin Josephson to you, through this Personal Portrait. Kevin is a Genetic Counselor for the La Crosse Regional Genetics Service, a position he has held since 1984. He has been instrumental in helping WiSSP become part of the care La Crosse area families who experience stillbirth receive.

Originally from Minneota, Minnesota, Kevin graduated in 1979 from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, with a double major in Biology/Chemistry. He later received his Master’s Degree in Medical Genetics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison genetics counseling program. (Kevin and WiSSP Associate Director Casey Reiser have been colleagues since graduate school, with Casey graduating in 1980, and Kevin being granted his degree in 1981.) Following his graduate training Kevin took a position with the North Carolina Division of Health Services in Greenville, NC. Since his return to Wisconsin in 1984, Kevin has been active locally, regionally and nationally working on a variety of issues. Many of you may know Kevin from his work on behalf of the Wisconsin Association for Perinatal Care, with his most recent commitments being membership on the Tertiary Care Committee and serving as the Allied Health Representative for the Western Region from 1993-1996. The Great Lakes Regional Genetics Group (GLaRGG) has also benefitted from Kevin’s dedication. According to Louise Elbaum, GLaRGG Coordinator, Kevin did a "fantastic job" as chair of the GLaRGG Education Subcommittee (1986-1996). He was also a member of the original Steering Committee from the inception of GLaRGG in 1986, only recently resigning from this position. This past year Kevin has shared his expertise with the National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC). As a board certified Genetic Counselor, he served in the NSGC Billing, Licensing and Reimbursement Subcommittee and the Nomination Committee. This list only touches the surface of Kevin’s career-long involvement with professional and community organizations dedicated to the care of families.

Kevin’s free time is devoted to family activities. He and his wife, Kristi, have two beautiful daughters, Chelsea, age 8, and Hannah, age 5. They enjoy recreational pursuits such as hiking in the woods around their home.
