Desk Copies
Desk copies are complimentary books
sent to professors who have already adopted the book for a course.
To request a desk copy, professors can send an e-mail, fax or
letter to the Press. The request should specify the name and
address to which the books should be sent to, e-mail, phone number,
title of the course, expected enrollment, semester or quarter
in which the course will be offered, course level (undergraduate
or graduate), the name(s) of the bookstore(s) where the course
books will be sold, how many books were ordered, and if possible
the purchase order number.
In order to receive a free desk copy:
1. An order of a minimum of ten new copies of the book must be
placed
AND
2. The qualifying order from your bookstore must by confirmed
by our distributor, The University of Chicago Press.
Both of these criteria must be met before a desk copy can be
shipped to you. One complimentary book is allowed for every ten
new copies of books ordered.
Sometimes bookstores wait until it is closer to the beginning
of the term to place orders with our distributor. So even though
you may have placed your order with your bookstore, your bookstore
may not have placed the order with our distributor yet. If you
would like a desk copy before your bookstore places the order
so that you can make course plans, we recommend that you consider
ordering an exam copy or request that your bookstore order ten
new copies now to qualify for the desk copy and fill the rest
of the order later. We will not be able to send you a desk copy
until we can confirm the qualifying order, which may cause delays
in your plans.
In some cases, bookstores may order only a few new copies of
the book and fill the rest of the order with used copies, in
that case we are not able to provide you with a desk copy. It
is UW Press policy that a minimum of ten new copies be purchased.
To ensure that you receive a free desk copy, make sure your bookstore
order at least ten new copies of the book.
Course
use examination copies
Exam copies are sent to professors who
would like to review the book before deciding whether to use
it in a class. To request an exam copy, professors can send an
e-mail, fax or letter to the Press. The request should specify
the name and address to which the books should be sent to, e-mail,
phone number, title of the course, expected enrollment, semester
or quarter in which the course will be offered, course level
(undergraduate or graduate), and the name(s) of the bookstore(s)
where the course books will be sold.
You will be billed at a 50% academic discount, plus shipping
charges payable in 90 days. You will then have 90 days to:
Option 1. Keep the book as a free desk copy if an order
of at least 10 new copies of the book has been confirmed with
our distributor, The University of Chicago Press.
Option 2. Return the book for full credit.
Option 3. Purchase the book at the 50% discount for your
own use.
