Ecquid Novi: African Journalism Studies Guidelines for Contributors

Editorial policy: The purpose of Ecquid Novi: African Journalism Studies, as a biannual journalism research journal, is to foster a better understanding of journalism, media studies, and mass communication as research disciplines in the comparative context of Africa and the South, and to build links between these academic fields and media professions in these contexts. The journal's focus is on Africa , but its academic interest and scope is transnational.

Editorial content: Journalism and media-related articles dealing with globalization, development, ethics, gender, race, culture, politics and social change in Africa are invited. All research methodologies are welcome but the journal tends to focus on articles within the qualitative tradition. Comparative studies of journalism in other regions that have a bearing on African journalism are also welcome. Though the central focus is Journalism Studies, because of its comparative and interdisciplinary approach, it is also of interest to scholars in the wider fields of: African Studies, Communications, Cultural and Media Studies, Politics, and Sociology.

Research approach: Ecquid Novi: African Journalism Studies publishes articles from all theoretical perspectives and research approaches. However, there is a trend towards publishing more critical and analytical articles within the context of qualitative research, especially when these approaches are informed by comparative perspectives on cultural, political or socio-economic issues related to journalism.

Reviewing: Research articles in Ecquid Novi: African Journalism Studies are subjected to rigorous, double-blind external peer review. The editorial staff aims at a three month turn-around-period.

Format: Ecquid Novi: African Journalism Studies is published twice a year and is comprised of a main section for refereed research articles, and a section for book reviews.
