Become a Friend of the University of Wisconsin Press!

The Friends of the University of Wisconsin Press provides a new opportunity for supporters to participate in the publishing process. If you wish to help us publish the kinds of books that shape and reflect our community and the world, we invite you to join us.

As a Friend of the UW Press:

You join an important community of readers, authors, and scholars committed to the dissemination of knowledge and ideas.

You will support the publication of scholarly books and journals of enduring value and significance, and especially provide opportunities for first-time authors to publish their work.

You will help the Press promote the history and culture of Wisconsin and the Upper Midwest through the publication of outstanding regional titles.

You will enable the Press to create paid internship opportunities for students that prepare them for fulfilling careers.

You will receive special, advance invitations to author signings and other events, in addition to receiving the Press' biannual newsletter, Expressions, and seasonal catalogs.

As a Friend, you may choose to contribute to a general fund, where your gift will immediately be put to use wherever it is needed most. For example, it may help the Press purchase better accounting software or allow acquisitions editors to compete with larger presses in offering contracts for exciting new work. Additionally, we welcome contributions targeted to specific areas of the Press' activities and have established the following special funds for this purpose.

THE FUND FOR SCHOLARLY BOOKS
Contributions to this fund will primarily support the publication of first books by promising new authors, as financial support is often difficult to attain for authors without an established reputation. We at the Press feel it is important to support work by emerging scholars, and we strive to provide them with opportunities to establish credentials and develop authorial experience.

THE FUND FOR WISCONSIN REGIONAL BOOKS
This fund will assist us in developing new regional titles that celebrate the history and culture of Wisconsin and the Upper Midwest, as well as keeping classic regional books in print. Recent popular regional titles include Wisconsin's Natural Communities by Randy Hoffman and So Ole Says to Lena: Folk Humor of the Upper Midwest compiled and edited by James P. Leary. Generous donations last year helped us reprint the incomparable reference Fishes of Wisconsin by George C. Becker.

THE FUND FOR STUDENT INTERNSHIPS
Undergraduate and graduate student interns are a valuable resource at the Press, performing important work in almost every department. Contributions to this fund will enable the Press to provide more paid internship opportunities for students. Interns not only play an important role in the publishing process, they gain valuable insight and work experience. Many former interns are now engaged in successful careers in communications.

We are excited about our Friends group, not only because of the leadership and financial support it provides the Press, but also because it allows us to become partners with our community.
