J. S. Bach
Sonatas and Partitas for Unaccompanied Violin
Vartan Manoogian, violin

In this new recording, Vartan Manoogian's elegant artistry brings to life J. S. Bach's unsurpassed masterwork for unaccompanied violin. The violin used for the recording was made in Italy in 1747 by J.B. Guadagnini and passed through various hands before being purchased by Mr. Manoogian in 1985.

Vartan Manoogian is professor of music at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. A graduate of the Juilliard School, he has played with many orchestras and toured throughout the world. He was the concertmaster of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, with which he toured Japan. Manoogian has played at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and has appeared in festivals in Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, France, and the United States. He is the author of four books on violin technique, available in English and Spanish. During the summer he serves as artistic director of the Madeline Island Chamber Music Festival in Wisconsin.
