Design, Vienna 1890s–1930s Joann Skrypzak Essay by Barbara C. Buenger Viennese modernism from the miniature to the monumental Barbara Buenger traces the development of Viennese modernism from turn-of-the-century Jugendstil (as Art Nouveau was known in German-speaking countries) to early twentieth-century Expressionism, and interwar Art Deco. This exhibition catalog features 103 fine and decorative art works produced by the Vienna Secession and Wiener Werkstätte movements between the 1890s and 1930s. The fully illustrated catalog features textiles, furniture, ceramics, paintings and prints, books, metalwork, glass, and a variety of other objects from a private midwestern collection. Joann Skrypzak is the curator of the Design, Vienna 1890s–1930s exhibition at the Elvehjem Museum of Art. Barbara C. Buenger is professor of Art History at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
