C. Schwertfeger

and religious identity, this humorous memoir is shaped significantly
by images of Schwertfeger's father— "the Wee Wild One"—who
spent his childhood on the same farm in Ballycoan.
Schwertfeger's voice reflects a shared and persistent desire
to return to one's roots. She also explores many facets of social
life in Northern Ireland that are often hidden behind the stereotypes
of history and public rhetoric.
Ruth Schwertfeger
is professor of German at University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee.
She is the author of Else Lasker-Schuler: Inside This Deathly
Solitude and Women of Theresienstadt: Voices from a Concentration
Camp. Schwertfeger was born in Ballycoan, Northern Ireland.
