Voices The third volume in an acclaimed nursing
series, Many Voices explores the connections and tensions
at the intersection of caring, health, and culture. As the voices
of diverse groups are increasingly acknowledged in healthcare,
ideological frictions among goals such as assimilation, pluralism,
and multiculturalism remain unsolved. Caring (or its opposite,
neglect or violence) mediates in health-related encounters in
ways that are often described more rhetorically than realistically.
This book highlights the issues as they are lived and experienced. Kathryn Hopkins Kavanagh is a medical anthropologist and a lecturer at the University of Maryland.
