Snapshot Versions of Life
Richard ChalfenPopular Press
A professional observer trained in both anthropology and communications research takes a careful look at photographs, movies, and videotapes that are taken at home, or of home, or are displayed at home.
Chalfen's studies have focused on what people do with their personal photos and what their personal photos do for them. He offers many comparisons of what ordinary people and various authors say about snapshots, slide collections, family albums, and home movies. He finds striking comparisons between mass communications and home modes of communication.
