Presskit for two novels by Jane DeLynn: In Thrall and Don Juan in the Village

In Thrall
A Novel
Jane DeLynn

Reviews for In Thrall:

"One of the 100 best gay and lesbian novels of all time"—Publishing Triangle

"A dazzling novel. . . . The most obvious comparison is Holden Caulfield and The Catcher in the Rye. It's got real wit to it and an audacious originality. The dialogue is superb and the pace perfect. . . . The single most wonderful quality of this novel is its absolute credibility. This book is going to have a long, long life."—Los Angeles Times Book Review

"All Lynn's phobias, aversions, preferences, and hang-ups make her exaggerated but real and terrifically funny. The great triumph of this novel is that DeLynn has captured the way adolescents felt, talked, and behaved during the early 1960s."—San Francisco Chronicle

Don Juan in the Village
A Novel
Jane DeLynn

Reviews for Don Juan in the Village:

"If Woody Allen were a lesbian, he might have written something like Jane DeLynn's Don Juan in the Village."—The Observer (London)

"A fascinating, funny, and intense world tour of lesbian lust. . . . Bold, brash, frank, risqué, engaging, and at times borderline brilliant."—Lambda Book Report

"The thing about sex—as this novel demonstrates in relentless (and riveting) detail—is that it's hardly ever just about sex. DeLynn has created a tough yet vulnerable antihero."—Village Voice

"A devastating portrait . . .unflinchingly honest . . .terribly moving . . .Don Juan fascinates."—Los Angeles Times Book Review

"Cool, deceptively simple, but significant."—Kirkus

"These urgent and disturbing stories of thwarted and self-thwarted love ultimately become, via DeLynn's excruciatingly self-conscious narrator, a powerful metaphor of our intense alienation from society and each other. An intriguing portrayal of that strange and trance-like locus where lust and disgust become indistinguishable."—Kathy Acker

"Each chapter of Don Juan in the Village carries with it not only the emotional punch of a short story (one or two of them are shattering) but also writing so finely crafted that, even though the only thing seemingly linking these episodes of sexual conquest and submission is the narrator's coldly urgent voice, a palatable and troubling suspense builds, and something frightening happens; we recognize ourselves whether we want to or not on just about every page. This is some of the most nakedly honest writing about lust I know of in contemporary fiction."—Bret Easton Ellis
