The agricultural education major prepares students to teach agriculture in different settings, with tracks designed for each student's field of interest. The first major is designed to prepare students for secondary education certification. It includes two options. The first leads to certification in agriscience and biology (grades 6-12). It is offered in cooperation with the School of Education. Students first complete three years at CALS satisfying the agricultural and biological science course work component. They transfer to the School of Education for the program's final two years, if they fulfill grade point and prerequisite course requirements. Students receive instruction by faculty and staff from the School of Education and the Department of Life Sciences Communication. The second option leads to certification in agri-science education only. Students choosing this option complete fewer credits in the biological sciences and in professional education field experiences.

The department offers a second undergraduate major in agricultural education that does not lead to teacher certification. It focuses on developing educational programs for nontraditional settings. The major offers a bachelor of science degree in three degree program tracks: natural resources, agricultural sciences, and international agriculture and natural resources. Possible career settings for this major include adult education systems, government agencies, and in business and industry. Students graduating in this program must complete all relevant university, college and degree requirements; field experience and recommended supporting courses in areas such as agricultural sciences, communications, technology, and resource development.
