Kids-Kare Program

You must be a University of Wisconsin-Madison student who is eligible and approved for the Child Care Tuition Assistance Program (CCTAP) to access the Kids-Kare Program.

Kids-Kare was developed in 2002 to meet the needs of sick, back-up, and evening child care services for student parents:

  • who need sick child care for their mildly ill children in order to attend class or work,
  • who need back-up child care services when their current child care provider is ill or unavailable; back-up care provides extra support for the student who has no other alternative then to miss class if their child care provider is ill or unavailable,
  • who need evening care to fulfill exams, labs, or class requirements.

Kids-Kare service usage

Services are available during the fall and spring (dates to be determined) semesters, as long as funds are available. For summer funding, contact the CCTAP Office. Registration application fee: $5.00 fee made payable to Little Chicks Learning Academy with application.

Sick child care: (2-8 hours) Sick care is for a mildly ill child(ren). This is an occasional service; it cannot be used for your primary child care. There is a $5.00 per hour co-pay for this service for those requesting over 10 hours of sick care each semester.

Back-up care: (2-8 hours) Back-up care is an occasional service; it cannot be used for your primary child care. There is a $5.00 per hour co-pay for this service for those requesting over 10 hours of back-up care each semester.

Evening care: (2-4 hours) Evening care is intended for those student parents who are enrolled in an evening class, or who are required to attend evening labs, discussion groups, and/or exams. There is a $5.00 per hour co-pay for this service for those requesting over 10 hours of evening care each semester.

Contracted Evening care: Requests for “evening care” for a course enrollment period will be contracted directly with Little Chicks Learning Academy.  In cases when the student has requested evening care for an entire semester, Chicken Soup will hire staff for the requested time and will complete a signed contract with the student.  If the student cancels care, the student will be billed directly for any remaining fees for any evening care CANCELLED BEFORE the course is completed.

NOTE: 24 hour cancellation is required if care is requested and not used. If care date is not cancelled, the Chicken Soup/Little Chicks Center will bill the student directly.

All services are evaluated on a student's needs and funding availability.
