University Police

The University of Wisconsin Police Department has shown a great deal of sensitivity towards the issues faced by members of the LGBT community, and has been an active partner in investigating reports of harassment and hate crimes against members of the University's LGBT communities, whenever they arise. In addition to many officers and detectives identifying as Allies, UWPD has a number of out gay and lesbian officers, some of whom are pictured above. Each year, two out officers are appointed to serve as LGBT Liaison officers. They often stop in at the LGBT Campus Center, and are a visible presence at Ten Percent Society dances and other LGBT-related events on campus. Current Liaisons are Officer Trish Meinholtz and Officer Coreen Puetz.

Offices of the Dean of Students

Lori Berquam In the Offices of the Dean of Students, we are committed to championing a respectful, globally engaged and diverse university community. The LGBT CC is a critical component of that mission, just as LGBTQ and allied students are critical components of the fabric of our university community. ODOS is proud to support UW-Madison LGBTQ and allied students as they navigate the university; discover and nurture their convictions, passions, and interests; and fully engage in the Wisconsin Experience.

Think. Respect.

Members of the University of Wisconsin-Madison community are being encouraged to "Think" about using the power of respect and positive action to promote a welcoming and inclusive campus climate. While there is no single definition for campus climate, it generally is known as students, faculty and staff feeling valued and respected, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual orientation, age, job class, ability/disability or any other characteristic.

The Offices of the Dean of Students is committed to promoting respect among students and the members of the University community, and the bias incident reporting form provides a mechanism for students to deal constructively with actions and speech acts that they consider biased. If you have witnessed or experienced a bias-related incident, you can report it to the Offices of the Dean of Students.
