About the LGBT Campus Center

Mission

The Mission of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ) Campus Center is to strengthen and sustain an inclusive campus community for LGBTQ and allied students by eliminating heterosexism, homophobia, and gender identity oppression. Our goal is to provide the services and resources necessary to meet the social, emotional, academic and cultural needs of LGBTQ students. We constantly strive to meet our mission through:

  1. Educating the campus community about issues of sexual orientation and gender identity
  2. Providing a safe space for students to socialize, study, and access resources
  3. Organizing and hosting programs and social/support groups
  4. Advocating for the needs and concerns of LGBTQ students
  5. Empowering students through leadership development

The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Campus Center supports the academic mission of the University of Wisconsin - Madison by providing essential resources and services necessary for student success at the University and beyond.

The LGBTCC provides support, social, educational, and research services to the campus community. Serving as an open meeting place for all queer students and organizations, the LGBTCC welcomes all who are in need of a place to relax or study. It serves as UW-Madison's first stop for those looking for information about campus LGBT organizations as well as many other concerns of LGBT students.

What You Can Find in the Office

The office houses an official campus library complete with books, movies and other resources available for checkout. The campus center is also equipped with a television, VCR and DVD player for movies, computers for student access and a staff of seven that work to bring events, speakers and programs to campus. There are also support/discussion groups that meet on a regular basis.

A Speakers Bureau is also available to visit classes, residence halls, academic departments, student organizations, and community businesses to serve as a panel for presentations and programs.

Meet the Campus Center Staff

Angela Birrittela Hi, my name is Angela and I'm returning to the LGBTCC Staff after a year as a House Fellow and boy am I glad to be back. This spunky theater and drama major loves to help people, making the mentor position perfect for me. If you're in need of a friend Angela is here. I love to talk about feelings, rainbows, butterflies and Shakespeare. Please indulge me and stop by the CC to talk today!
Hi, my name is Cory Schultz and I'm the Communication Specialist at the LGBTCC. I'm a sophomore at UW-Madison majoring in International Studies and Languages and History of the Middle East, and I am applying to the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. I'm a big fan of cult cinema, long travel adventures, California, shopping when I have the money, and watching the 3rd season of Weeds. I love my little brother Casey and my big sister Lindsay, and my roomates Carly and John! I also love Gael Garcia Bernal but he doesn't know it yet ;) You can e-mail me at cschultz3@wisc.edu or stop by the CC during my office hours Mondays & Wednesdays 12-3 and Fridays 11-2.
Hi, I'm Maggie Lalor, the Educational Outreach Coordinator, which means I get to coordinate the amazing Speakers Bureau program for the LGBTCC. I am a third year majoring in Zoology, Economics and Political Science and hope to find a job related to water policy. In the meantime I get to spend copious amounts of time at the CC, play the harp, cook for my friends, hang out at my frat (don't you love 70s-style couches?) and try not to kill my plants or fish. Feel free to stop by the CC to chat and maybe I'll be able to recruit you for the Speakers Bureau ;) My office hours are Mondays 9-11 AM and Wednesdays noon-1 PM. You can also send me an e-mail at lgbtspeakers@rso.wisc.edu
Hi, I am Estevan, the library specialist at the LGBTCC. I am a graduate student in the School of Library and Information Studies. I absolutely love Kylie Minogue, and I have a particular fancy for bowling and yes you guessed it ... libraries. Hi, my name is Eric Trekell and I am the Director of the LGBT Campus Center. Although I cheer for the badgers, I am an Aggie fan at heart. Although embarassing to admit, I am a huge Robbie Williams fan. My hobbies include horticulture and cooking. I make a mean pumpkin tiramusui, a recipe I will guard to my grave. I am a proud Phi Kappa Tau member and even have a paddle in my office. Stop my office and chill or talk anytime. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to send me an email.
Hi, I'm Joe Erbentraut and I'm a fourth-year student majoring in the strategic communication track of the Journalism and Mass Communication School and working toward a certificate in LGBT Studies. I am one of two event coordinators, planning the gayest of gay parties and working with volunteers. In addition, I am the co-president of Ten Percent Society and work on a music promotions internship in town. When not busy sitting in meetings and consuming near deadly quantities of Diet Coke, I dig music of all varieties (particularly Tori Amos and anything angsty or with a beat), activism and watching Lifetime movies as a means of emotional release. Shoot me an e-mail at lgbtccvolunteers@gmail.com or stop by my spring office hours: M 9-12, T 4-5, W 2-4, F 10-12.
Buon giorno, my name is Jhani Miller and I am the Outreach Specialist for the LGBT Campus Center. I am from the windy city (suburbs) and am currently studying Political Science. My hobbies include being a resident foxy mentor and eating anything in sight (especially if someone else paid for it). I am a very friendly girl who simply adores mingling and enjoying life(vague?). With that said, I absolutely look forward to meeting all you new people and reestablishing old bonds. If you ever need anything at all feel free to ask the Jhani! Let's do coffee?? I'm in the Campus Center Tuesdays and Thursdays 11-1. You can e-mail me at jdmiller4@wisc.edu
