The Department of Anatomy is concerned broadly with instruction and investigation into the significance of structure in biological problems at all levels of organization. Major areas within the discipline that are represented by members of the staff are cellular and molecular biology, embryology, developmental biology, neurophysiology, neuroanatomy, and gross human anatomy.

The department is no longer a graduate-degree-granting department. Faculty in the Department of Anatomy continue to recruit graduate students from multidisciplinary training programs on campus, such as the Cellular and Molecular Biology Program, the Neuroscience Training Program, and the Genetics Training Program. Therefore, students interested in being trained by faculty in the Department of Anatomy are encouraged to apply to one or more of these interdisciplinary programs and inquire about anatomy faculty listed as trainers.
