Candidates are expected to present a progress report to their examination committee each year after the preliminary examination has been passed. Candidates must participate in the department teaching program (two semesters of teaching) as part of their training. After one semester of graduate work, every candidate must enroll for seminar courses. In at least one semester during advancement toward the Ph.D. degree, candidates must enroll and give a seminar in an area distinct from that of the dissertation work. Ph.D. candidates are expected to prepare a written assessment of research done in the program. Contact the department for more information.
