Welcome to the Students section of the English 201 website. Here you will find information about the course, its policies, and its instructors and their sections.
You might be asking yourself if English 201 is the right Communications B course for you. In 201, the focus is on your writing.
English 201 is right for you if you want to have an opportunity to concentrate on your writing, develop as a writer, and practice the essential skills of revision. Other Comm B courses are writing intensive, but they also focus on the knowledge and practices of their specific disciplines. Although our sections are often vastly different in topic or approach, writing is always the center around which all other activities revolve. (For examples, see section descriptions.) In addition, English 201 is taught by experienced teaching assistants in a low-enrollment environment. Sections are currently limited to 19 students, and this small class size provides an opportunity to work closely with both the instructor and your classmates.
Students who take 201 are diverse in class standing (sophomore to senior) and major (students in all disciplines are invited to take English 201); this important aspect allows for a variety of histories, interests, and opinions, all of which combine to elicit thought-provoking discussions and workshops. Reviews from past 201 students will attest to the hard work, benefits, and fun that typically characterize this course.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Assistant Director, Director, or an individual instructor.
