Pamela Ruegg is an associate professor and extension milk quality
specialist in the Dept. of Dairy Science. She received her undergraduate
degree and D.V.M. from Michigan State University and completed a
residency in Food Animal Herd Health and Reproductive Management
and Masters of Preventive Veterinary Medicine from the University
of California – Davis. Previous professional experience includes
private veterinary practice, faculty positions at both Atlantic
Veterinary College in Prince Edward Island, Canada, and the College
of Veterinary Medicine at MSU and 4.5 years of technical service
with the Monsanto Company. Her extension program is focused on enhancing
on-farm implementation of best management practices to improve milk
quality and safety. Her research interests are focused on the application
of epidemiologic techniques to critical issues related to milk quality
and safety. Current projects include antimicrobial resistance of
mastitis pathogens, influence of cow and farm hygiene on milk safety
and quality, and the use of Petrifilmâ„¢ products to diagnose mastitis.
Dr. Ruegg is a frequent speaker at dairy and veterinary conferences
in the U.S. and internationally
