Margaret R. Dentine

Emeritus Professor

mrdentine@cals.wisc.edu

Dr. Dentine conducts research in genetics of longevity in dairy cattle and computer modeling of population improvement systems including additive and non-additive sources. She is studying DNA markers linked to performance traits, development of bovine gene map, marker-assisted selection of superior animals, management of progeny testing schemes and evaluation of population improvement schemes. Dr. Dentine has developed a practical genotyping technique using small milk samples instead of quarts of milk. Dentine's group has been particularly interested in genes that code for milk proteins. Armed with that information, farmers could breed cows to produce milk ideal for cheese-making.
