Oracle Client Software - It is recommended that you use an Oracle client version that matches your database version. If connecting to multiple database versions, use the newest client version. Oracle certifies that newer client versions are backwards compatible with supported versions. For example, accessing an 8i database with a 9i client is supported. However, accessing an unsupported v7 database with a 9i client is not supported. You can have multiple Oracle client versions installed on your computer. If running two client versions is too confusing, you can deinstall the old version at anytime using Oracle's Universal Installer. Make sure the client version you plan to use most is listed first in your PATH variable. If you delete the old client, any ODBC connections setup with the older client will need to be reconfigured.
You can download the Oracle 9i or 10g clients at www.oracle.com. If you use the client to connect to a University of Wisconsin database, then the client download is covered under the UW's Oracle site license.

University of Wisconsin - Division of Information Technology (DoIT) staff can install the client from the DoIT LAN. See N:\oracle\clients\readme.txt for instructions.

Answer the 5 export restriction questions, accept the license agreement, and then download the "10g_win32_client.zip" file which is listed in the third section under "Oracle Database 10g Client Release 1 (10.1.0.2) for Microsoft Windows (32-bit)".

Answer the 5 export restriction questions, accept the license agreement, and then download the "92010NT_CLT.zip" file which is listed in the second section under "Oracle9i Database Release 2 Client for Microsoft Windows 98/2000/NT/XP".
