IBS-SRP
PLANT DEVELOPMENT,
BREEDING AND GENETICS
Here are some comments from past participants in our
subgroup:
I really enjoyed this
summer…being in the lab made me realize that this might be something I am
really interested in doing.

I got to meet some really
interesting people and made friends with different people from all over the
country…as well as other countries!
My lab was great!
I really like the research the lab is doing in general and the project I
was assigned. Everyone in my lab got
along well and was nice to me and answered all of my stupid questions. I feel like I learned a lot of genetics and
that I became more focused about graduate school.
My experience in my lab was good. The lab members were kind and welcomed me and
I was able to work alongside them successfully. My mentor was excellent. She was very involved with my project and
continually guided me and helped me. I
was very thankful for her and for her involvement.

My lab experience was great because the members of
my lab were helpful and knowledgeable.
They welcomed me instantly. I
feel as though I had the "grad school" experience in terms of
developing a research project, investigating my problem, collecting results and
making conclusions. That was the most
educational and rewarding part of my experience.
I was excited that I saw my PI almost daily
throughout the experience. She was
wonderful! She would always answer any questions that I had, and would make
sure that everything was going well with me in the lab. Her excitement for her work was enveloping,
and I found that attribute to be motivating.
She treated me as a colleague in her lab.
The subgroup was a wonderful cohesive group that
supported each other throughout this experience. We had many opportunities to get to know each
other and each other's research topics.
We all wanted each other to succeed in our respective labs, and I think
that was best displayed in the preparation and execution of our final presentations. I was proud of our group because I think
everyone did a fantastic job!
