Societies Represented at the 1991 National Life
Science Education Summit
The Coalition for Education in the Life
Sciences (CELS) is a network of life science
professional organizations formed in February
1991. At that time, individuals representing 30
life science professional societies and
organizations with a collective membership of
over 250,000 life scientists and science
educators met to call for the establishment of a
national life sciences education network. The
1991 conference was sponsored by the S.C. Johnson
Foundation and organized by the American Society
for Microbiology. The professional societies that
were represented at the 1991 National Life
Science Education Summit are listed below.
