This proseminar examines the material culture of early America. While in its broadest sense, the term "material culture" can apply to any product of human behavior--from artifacts to landscapes--this course focuses on the constellation of objects that are traditionally called the decorative arts and asks how they were made, understood and experienced two centuries ago. P: Priority given to Art History undergrad majors and students taking the Material Culture Certificate. |
