This class is a roughly chronological survey of the art of nineteenth-century Europe. Lectures will treat the major artists and art movements of this time period, such as Neo-Classicism, Romanticism, photography, Pre-Raphaelitism, Impressionism and Post-Impressionism with a focus on the social and historical contexts of the works as well as on issues of gender and race.
