The works of Hieronymus Bosch are examined in depth during the first several weeks of the semester, followed by a survey of works by his Netherlandish contemporaries including Quentin Metsys, Jan Gossaert, Lucas van Leyden and Jan van Scorel. German painters and printmakers covered include Lucas Cranach, Hans Baldung, Albrecht Altdorfer and the members of the so-called Danube School. The course concludes with the works of Hans Holbein and Pieter Bruegel. |
