Art History 203
Survey of Asian Art

This course introduces the visual arts of Asia in relevant social, historical, and cultural contexts through a selection of artistic achievements from across the vast area (including Afghanistan, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Nepal, Pakistan, Thailand, Tibet, and Vietnam) at different points in time. Variously centered on individual works, monuments, artists, or movements, the course is organized to foster in-depth understanding of arts that are characteristic of Asia, and to encourage students to develop skills and confidence in analyzing, describing, and comparing visual forms.
