| I. | Slide Identification (12 min., 32 pts.): You will be shown slides of 8 works, each for 1-1/2 minutes (90 seconds). Supply the following information about each, in outline form: | ||
| a. | title (actual title or a descriptive title) | ||
| b. | artist OR site (If the work is attributed to an identified individual, give the person's name. If the work is associated with an identified site, identify it.) If the work is not associated with an artist or site, leave this item blank. | ||
| c. | medium (= material the work is made of; for example, stone, bronze, pottery, painting) | ||
| d. | date (year, century, dynasty, or period. The last of these may be VERY broad, but is acceptable as an answer). If the work is a copy of a lost original, it is better to give the date of the original. The date of the copy may be given if it is securely established. | ||
| II. |
Slide comparison
(8 min., 32 pts.): You will be shown a pair of slides. First, identify
the works (in outline form, as in section I), Next, write a brief essay
comparing and contrasting them [= what are the main similarities and differences?].
If I am looking for specific points of comparison, the question will say
so. Otherwise, it is up to you to decide what the most important similarities
and differences are. Possibilities include technique, style, intended
use, meaning, etc. |
||
| III. | Short identifications without slides (9 min., 15 pts.): Choose 3 of the following 5 names or terms. Briefly identify the essential information about them, and comment on their significance. | ||
| IV. | Short essay (30 min., 30 pts.): Choose A or B. Your answer to either one should draw upon the assigned readings as well as class lectures. Support your general points by referring to specific works we have studied. | ||
| A. | |||
| B. | |||
| (Usually the two options will be very different, one oriented more toward theory and the other more toward specific works.) | |||
