AH 322: ITALIAN ART FROM DONATELLO TO DA VINCI, 1400-1500 (SPRING 2008)

Art History Short Paper on Art in the Chazen Museum

For the following assignment please select one of the art works listed below. You should plan to do a short (5 page maximum) paper that includes the following:

  • Do a careful visual analysis, taking into account the medium and the original function of the work. How does the medium impact the image in terms of composition, overall shape, color.
  • Find a work of art on our syllabus that shows parallels in style and purpose with the piece you have chosen. You may even find something by the same artist.
  • Is there any material on reserve in Kohler Art Library that helps put your work of art into a context of artistic school, art patronage, or purpose? Document your reference with a correct bibliographical citation. If you paraphrase something from a published work be careful to state it in your own words. If you quote a passage be certain to do that correctly as well. Check the Writing Center web site for correct procedure or the recommended Barnet at the bookstore.
