American Indian Student Academic Services (AISAS)

Created in 1993 to focus on the retention of American Indian, Alaskan Native & Native Hawaiian undergraduate students, AISAS continues to assist undergraduate, graduate, and professional students in their academic, professional, and personal growth. AISAS promotes retention through outreach, student advocacy, community development, and academic advising. Continuously inhabited since ice sheets receded 12,000 years ago, DeJope (the Four Lakes region) has been Ho Chunk homeland for 2,000+ years.   The shores of Lake Mendota are now home to the University of Wisconsin – Madison. The campus and city of Madison exist in what was once the epicenter of the mound building cultures of the upper Midwest. Of the ~20,000 mounds created prior to European arrival, forty-five Archaeological Site Indices remain on campus.

Business Learning Center

The Business Learning Center works in small groups to help reinforce students' understanding of the materials presented in lectures. During sessions the Learning Center explores concepts in greater depth, addresses students' questions, and conducts additional exercises. They discuss the homework and provide additional exercises to be worked in class in addition to preparing students for exams by offering practice exams and review sessions.

Chemistry Learning Center

The Chemistry Learning Center is for students who wish to improve their ability to learn chemistry. Participation is voluntary and there is no fee. We offer a supportive learning environment where students meet in small groups with staff to work out effective strategies for matering the chemical content.

Mathematics Tutorial Program

The Mathematics Tutorial Program offers free tutoring in a cooperative learning environment for students enrolled in Math 101, 112, 113, 114, 211, 213, 221, 222 and 171/217.Tutorial sessions meet twice a week, for 50 minutes at a time. Each session is made up of (at most) 8 to 10 students, all of whom are taking the same mathematics class. Along with a tutor, they spend the time working practice problems at the board; the tutor works around the room, talking with each student in turn. Attendance at tutorial sessions is mandatory to participate in the program.

The Writing Center

The Writing Center is staffed by seven professional writing instructors and thirty-eight advanced doctoral students in English literature and composition studies. All instructors in the Writing Center are highly trained, expert readers and are qualified to offer help with writing in all disciplines and at all levels.
