p.m. unless otherwise stated.
February 4, 2008: Seminar I - "Choosing a Graduate School" - Panelists will consist of McNair senior scholars who will discuss how they chose which schools to apply, the characteristics they looked for in a school and why these characteristics were important, which schools were their top choices and why. Open discussion follows.
March 3, 2008: Seminar II – “The Professional Culture of Graduate School” - Panelists Michael Hoffman, Bethany Brent, Darin Eich and Eileen Callahan will share their knowledge and experiences about professional behaviors as graduate students, the importance of networking, involvement in the graduate program, adviser and committee members and self presentation.
April 7, 2008: Seminar III – “The Path to the Professoriate” Panelists Mary Beltran, PhD (Chicano/Latino Studies and Communication Arts) and Rob San Juan will discuss how to do a job search, preparing a job talk, how to prepare for a career in academia, etc.
April 21, 2008: Seminar IV - "Diversity Issues in Graduate School" - Panelists include Dr. Alberta Gloria, Dean Dorothy Sanchez, Jorge Rodriguez of MGN and Le Ondra Clark, Phd. Student in Counseling Psychology. This seminar will be held at the Knapp House (130 East Gilman between Pinckney and Butler).
May 2, 2008: Graduation celebration and wrap up. 4:30-6:30pm at the Friedrick Center.

We will discuss strategies to assist in searching for supporting evidence and evaluating information sources (including critiquing an argument by assessing its claims and evaluating the evidence, and constructing an argument by taking a position and providing evidence.)
